Artist Statement

My 2nd solo art exhibition following the first <My Journey>in 2005, <My Journey Revisited> is an artistic journey of the continuous process of discovering delights in the nooks and cranny of quaint townscapes and that intangible language of sceneries: the energy of Manhattan skyline, the passing of time etched on the walls of Beijing backlanes, that chaotic beauty of Hong Kong street signage against the cacophony of hawker stalls. This exhibition will thus showcase some of the landscape works (both watercolour and oil) from my travels (overseas and locally), and some of the key works from my first solo exhibition. This exhibition will also pay homage to the elegant lotus plant, a plant so pure and ethereal as it stands among the widely spread leaves that surround it.

As an interpreter of images and the soul, painting is still the palette of my life which keeps me going; a form of escapism from my hectic school life as an architecture student. Perhaps this is how visual representation encapsulates the emotive translation beyond the surface of what is perceived. Perhaps this is how one marks the epochs in one’s life while indulging in the world of creative expression of which I would gladly like to share.

My Journey Revisited

It was a ride that I hopped on three years ago, when that phase of attempting to realise the potential of this creative field in visually representing the emotive translation beyond the surface of what is perceived was summarized in my first art exhibition ‘My Journey’.

revisiting that journey.

Perhaps this is how one marks the epochs in one’s life while indulging in the world of creative expression. Perhaps it is the memory bank that has me living in nostalgia, the pauses I took along the way.

Through paintings, through the sketches and scribbles of a page that shares the menu of last summer’s adventure, through the medium and preferences one uses to recreate that instantaneous elation or admiration, I sought to recreate and express the wonderment of globe-trotting.

My Journey Revisited is thus, an artistic journey of the continuous process of discovering delights in the nooks and crannies of quaint townscapes and the intangible language of sceneries: the energy of Manhattan skylines, the passing of time etched on the walls of Beijing backlanes, the chaotic beauty of Hong Kong street signage against the cacophony of hawker stalls.

As an interpreter of images and soul, painting is still the palette of my life which keeps me going; a form of escapism from my hectic school life as an architecture student. I would sit at a coffee shop, fish out a pen and sketchbook and render scenes from everyday life.

It is only natural that I share this joy.
